This past weekend parents, staff, and students celebrated the senior class with a recognition service Friday night and a student-led church service on Sabbath. In an annual tradition, each staff member spoke about the senior students, highlighting their unique characters and acknowledging how far they’ve come.
The next day, the seniors took charge of the church service. The senior praise team led out in worship. Toby Quillin, Keon Paez, and Alexandra Cordoba performed the song ”Redeemer” for special music. Brayden Marroquin gave the children’s story. Marcela Zuniga, Jack Jordan, Jack Ramos, and Damaris Lopez Morquecho delivered sermonettes based on the class theme of Faith over Fear. Each senior shared reasons on how faith can conquer fear. Jack Jordan concluded the sermons by giving out pieces of paper to the congregation and asking them to write down their biggest fear. Above the fear he asked participants to write: “I choose to put faith over fear”, as a reminder that Jesus conquers all. -Alexandra Cordoba

Campion’s top students, parents, and teachers gathered together for the annual Scholar’s Brunch to celebrate academic success, award scholarships, and induct students into the National Honor Society.
Twenty-three students received scholarships from alumni and other endowments of up to $1000 each. Nineteen seniors were officially inducted into the National Honor Society. Four of these seniors gave speeches on the four pillars of NHS: leadership, character, service, and scholarship. Congratulations to all our outstanding students! Abigail Brown, Student News Team Campion fans were all smiles after both the girls and boys varsity teams won their games against Mile High Academy on the Denver Nuggets court at Ball Arena on Thursday. To top off the evening, the students got to watch the Nuggets beat the Sacramento Kings.
It has been two years since Campion played at Ball Arena, so it was thrilling for the players to have a chance to compete on a professional court. "I felt pretty excited to play on an NBA court,” recalled Izuchi Nwankwo, a junior starter on the team who was playing there for the first time. “That was really cool!” he concluded. Players on both teams demonstrated good sportsmanship and camaraderie despite the competitive feeling between schools. Sarah Rushold, starting point guard for the girls varsity, shared, "I feel like we played well as a team! We never got down on each other for any mistakes we made. I'm so glad we got to play at the Ball Arena!" Recalling the boys game, EJ Woy, starting senior on the team, said "I was so excited! I felt like I was on fire at first. Although our team could be better on some things, we did well on keeping our composure. Whenever the other team started catching up, we kept our cool and stayed calm and finished the game strong." The students look forward to this big event each year. “It's a bittersweet moment knowing it was my last time playing there,” said Damaris Lopez Morquecho, senior. Josh Makizimana commented, "I felt good and a little emotional as I am a senior and this is my last time playing at Ball Arena. However, Campion played an excellent game and we finished with the win." Jill Harlow with Olivia Uphold, Student News Team The JV and Varsity boys, and Varsity girls basketball team won their most recent games against Ascent Classical Academy and Weldon Valley. The JV boys won against Ascent Classical 28-18, and also won against Weldon Valley 16-10 The Varsity girls won against Ascent Classical 38-32, and won against Weldon Valley 49-30 The Varsity boys won against Ascent Classical 55-20, and won against Weldon Valley 63-36 Olivia Uphold, Student News Team This past Sabbath, students led out in seven different churches in school-wide Students with a Testimony (SWAT) trip. Overseen by Chaplain Lindsey Santana, the theme for the weekend was being a disciple of Jesus. Students traveled as far as Grand Junction and Colorado Springs, and even conducted a service at a Spanish-speaking congregation. Students were in charge of running the entire church service, including song service, children’s story, special music, and the sermon. Evie Lange, a junior, was a part of a saxophone duet with Quiana Davis at the Grand Junction SDA Church. “I was excited to do special music,” Lange shared, “It was fun to play with another saxophonist because I have never done it before.” “The church was very welcoming,” Lange furthered; “Their arms were always open to us and they fed us a delicious lunch. We even stayed Friday night in some church members' homes; they were very kind.” Jasmine Smittick, a senior, was among the students that were selected to give a sermon. Smittick reflected, “I was very worried at first and overwhelmed, but as I continued to work on it, I was able to not only reach other people, but I resonated with what I was writing.” After church service the church members open their doors with potluck for the students. “It was really good and the food was really amazing.” Abigail Brown said. This was the second annual school-wide SWAT trip, helping students become leaders and more involved in church. Next year, students and staff look forward to reaching out to even more area churches.
