Wildfire Continues with 7 Choices for Baptism

Campion Academy has brought Loveland’s community a third night of worship underneath the white tent. Campion student speakers have blessed listeners with well-prepared messages, and God has brought His presence into each meeting. Last night, May 8, the Wildfire meeting was so full that the tent walls were shed and more chairs assembled for our crowd.

With uncontainable enthusiasm, senior Xander Assa shared with us that we cannot be a living soul without the “Breath of Life.” We are nothing without God. His sermon reflected on “What happens when we die?” Xander’s illustration revealed that dust + God’s breath = a living soul.

Xander brought us back to the inauguration prayer of Obama’s first election. In the prayer, Rick Warren said that Martin Luther King, Jr. and many others are celebrating in heaven over Obama’s election. Xander showed us through multiple Biblical references that Martin Luther King, Jr. is in fact not in heaven, and we will not live in heaven until Jesus comes back to save us. The Bible says that the dead in Christ shall rise first, and then all of the followers of Christ will fly to Jesus. Xander shared how his childhood dream of flying will be fulfilled, and he’ll get to see his friends that have passed away including Moses Arevalo, Pat Loing, and Adolf Simangungsong.

Xander told us that death was never God’s intention. That is why God sent His only Son, so that we may be with God forever if we choose Him. God sent His only Son to die the death that was ours, so we could have eternal life that was His.

Xander closed his sermon by offering his listeners a moment to choose baptism or re-baptism. Nothing but silence. After a few long seconds, Xander reiterated his appeal by passionately sharing that this was the time to dedicate yourself to your Creator if you felt the need to reconnect with Him. One member stood and made her way to the stage, a second walked down the aisle, a third made his way through the chairs. Xander's smile was so great that tears began to fall down his face. “Praise God! Praise Jesus,” Xander shouted with nothing but pure love and excitement for God’s kingdom. Another, wait, another? And another? A total of seven people made their way to the stage.

Senior Madeline Uhrik shares, “Xander’s reaction to those who chose to be baptized was the reaction of Jesus. Xander’s rejoicing was not that of himself, but one of Jesus.” The meeting closed as seven students, pastors, and Xander formed a circle and praised God as heaven rejoiced and threw a party for each of these souls of “Living breath.”

Senior Gabrielle Williams spoke with passion and clarity to a full tent of students and visitors Friday, May 6, for the opening night of Wildfire, Campion's week of prayer and evangelism. Is God Real? "Yes," she shared, "and He loves you and offers a wonderful plan for your life." Our part is to accept the salvation He offers. Of all the different religions, Christianity is the only religion that believes we can't save ourselves: we need a Savior.

Gabrielle went on to explain how God sent Jesus, His one and only Son to save us. Even though accepting a Savior should be easy, since we are unused to free things, acceptance can be difficult. To prove her point, she asked for a volunteer to come up to the microphone. After a long pause, a fellow student reluctantly came forward to discover he was the recipient of $20 cash.

Campion senior Alyse Maxwell said "Something that stood out to me is that even though we don't feel accepted, that doesn't mean that we aren't. You can't allow your emotions to control your faith."

Freshman Joe Philpott gave his heart to the Lord and was baptized at the end of Gabrielle's presentation.

Rayna Williams said "I was touched by just about everything she said tonight, especially when she brought out the point that God uses His strength to overcome our weaknesses. God is definitely not dead."

Is salvation really as easy as accepting a gift? Come and hear what teenagers are saying about some of Christianity's toughest questions. Seven students will be preaching over the course of the next week, after weeks of preparation and coaching from local Adventist pastors. Not only are Campion students attending these meetings as part of their week of prayer, but the community has been invited as well, through flyers and personal invitations. Between 8-12 non-Adventists attended the first night.

Location: big tent on the lawn of HMS Richards School
Time: 7-8:00pm May 6-13 (no meeting on May 8, Mothers Day)

Senior Class Trip of a Lifetime

Destaney Bohlender captured this beautiful sunrise from the hill behind Camp Waianae."
During April home leave, the senior class of 2016 experienced the island of Oahu, Hawaii.  The group enjoyed many activities including snorkeling, hiking, and learning about Hawaiian culture.  They stayed in cabins at Camp Waianae, the Seventh-day Adventist summer camp on the island.  “Having the Hawaii Adventist summer camp as our “home base” not only made the trip possible, but it was a beautiful setting where we could relax and get away from the busyness of all of the other tourists on the island,” explained class sponsor Dean Helm.  Breakfast was made at camp, followed by a worship thought given by a different senior each day.

A class favorite was the day spent at Pearl Harbor, visiting the USS Arizona Memorial and the Bowfin submarine. Senior Wesley Carle says, “It was cool being able to see the memories of what happened and memorials of the people lost.”  Visiting the USS Arizona Memorial was a solemn experience as the seniors observed the sunken ship and read the names of those who lost their lives that horrible day in our country’s history.  The seniors were also privileged to be able to explore the Bowfin submarine and imagine what life would be like living in those cramped quarters for months at a time.

Another favorite activity was snorkeling in Turtle Canyon, and just as the name implies, the class was able to swim with sea turtles along with lots of fish.  After they finished snorkeling, the guide took the group on a boat ride farther out from shore to experience the ocean in a different way.

But more than the fact that Hawaii was full of fun activities and beautiful landscapes for the class to enjoy, they loved being together and making even more memories to keep even though they will soon be separated.  As stated by class President, Gabrielle Williams, “Hawaii was a really great way to end our high school experience, surrounded by people we spent it with and love.”  While the seniors still have a few weeks until graduation, they continue to make memories with their fellow classmates and push on toward reaching the ultimate goal: spending eternity with Jesus and the rest of their class in heaven, a paradise that will far surpass Hawaii or anything we can imagine.

Rachel Hammond and Kyle Rushold are both seniors at Campion Academy.
