The first week of the school year was wrapped up with a special dedication Sabbath, as well as a big potluck lunch for the church and students.
The pews in Campion Church were filled with both new and returning students alike. The church formally welcomed and introduced Campion’s new staff, and a special prayer of dedication was said for staff and students. Koinonia also had their first performance of the year, singing “One” for special music. Teagan Phillips, a returning senior and Koinonia member, shared her thoughts on their first performance, “I felt very excited to get back performing with Koinonia again. It felt really different not having last year’s seniors in the group, but we are so excited for the new members. We had a great performance, and I can’t wait for the year ahead.” Church service concluded with a school-wide potluck on Campion’s Center Campus, giving church members and students the opportunity to connect. It was a sunny afternoon, and people gathered in groups, chattering over their meals as kids raced around the field. Merlina Resendiz, a returning senior, shared her appreciation for the potluck, saying, “It felt great being with all my friends and watching the mini soccer game the boys were playing. Senior ClassJunior ClassSophomore ClassFreshman ClassDecked out in their designated colors, the students united as classmates to compete in the annual Class Scramble games. The seniors came out on top, igniting their class pride. All the other classes fell in order with juniors in second, sophomores in third, and freshmen in fourth.
Although the senior class usually wins, this particular class was surprised because in previous years, they've lost to the class of ‘28. Elin Sorenson, senior, said, “Our class has never won anything, ever, so, it felt good to win. Our class spirit was off the charts!” Regardless of the final score, every class experienced a moment of connection and positivity. Courtney Cate, sophomore, said, “It’s a good way to get to know your classmates, build morale, and get excited.” In previous years, SA Picnic followed Class Scramble, but this year it has been scheduled for September 7th, giving the classes another chance to compete and build rapport. Natalie Bryant, Student News Team  A familiar face will be ready to welcome our students in the front office! Lizbeth (Camacho) Norton has joined the Campion team as Administrative Assistant.
Lizbeth grew up in Northern Colorado and graduated both from HMS Richards Adventist School and Campion Academy (Class of 2017). This past June, she and Ken Norton, Campion’s Assistant Boy’s Dean, got married at the Campion Church, with their reception on the lawn by the girl’s dorm. Previously Lizbeth worked as a Customer Service Representative for the Bible School at the Voice of Prophecy in Loveland. She is also working on completing her Bachelor’s of Science degree in Clinical Counseling online through Colorado Christian University. After getting married and moving on campus this summer, Lizbeth shared, “I was praying for a new job in ministry that would fit around my school schedule and with my transition. It’s great that I get to work where I live and be a part of the same ministry as my spouse.” Lizbeth reflected on how her experience as a student at Campion will influence her work with students saying, “When I was here it was a safe and welcoming environment where I felt embraced, and I want to help provide that same loving environment I experienced. I want to help students feel like they are in a home away from home.” In her free time, Lizbeth says she enjoys plants, flower arranging, painting, and leisure hiking. She and Ken also like to browse the aisles of Petco, where they actually met for the first time, dreaming of their future pet.  Please welcome Gisele Brown, joining Campion Academy’s staff as our new Registrar and Pre-Algebra teacher!
Originally from Saint Martin, Brown continued her education in France, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science along with graduate studies in Languages, Literature, and Foreign Civilizations. Throughout her career, she has also pursued professional development in data analysis, educational technology, and technical writing, building a unique combination of expertise in education, administration, and technology. Over the past several years, Brown has served in a variety of educational roles, including teaching, academic support, and school administration. Most recently, she worked in Saint Martin, where she taught, developed a student tracking system, and helped improve administrative processes. Those experiences strengthened her organizational skills and reinforced her passion for helping schools operate efficiently so that students and teachers can thrive. For Brown, joining Campion Academy was an opportunity to combine her passion for education, organization, and service in a Christ-centered environment. As registrar, she looks forward to supporting students throughout their academic journey while also teaching pre-algebra. "I was especially drawn to the registrar position because it plays a vital role in supporting students throughout their academic journey," she said. "I enjoy creating accurate systems, solving problems, and helping people. Knowing that my work behind the scenes contributes to students' success and allows teachers to focus on teaching is very rewarding to me." As a lifelong Seventh-day Adventist, Brown values the mission of Adventist education and its commitment to developing the whole person. "I believe Adventist education is unique because it seeks to develop the whole person academically, spiritually, socially, emotionally, and physically," she said. "I appreciate the opportunity to work in an environment where faith is naturally integrated into learning and daily life. My desire is not only to support students academically but also to contribute to a school culture that encourages them to grow in their relationship with Christ and prepare for lives of meaningful service." Outside of work, Brown enjoys continuous learning, reading, hiking, studying mathematics and computer science, and exploring new ways technology can improve education. She also enjoys developing organizational systems, but says her favorite pastime is spending time in Bible study and prayer. Since moving to Colorado, Brown has especially enjoyed the beauty of the Rocky Mountains and looks forward to getting to know the Campion community. "I am grateful to be here and excited to serve alongside the students, faculty, staff, families, church, and the entire Campion community," she said.  Campion Academy is pleased to welcome Denison Sager as the new Director of Recruitment and Marketing.
Sager spent the last year teaching math at Maplewood Academy in Minnesota. Before that, he served for 14 years as the Director of Youth Ministries for the Iowa-Missouri Conference, where he led Camp Heritage and oversaw year-round youth programming. In that role, he developed marketing strategies, expanded the camp's social media presence, and recruited both campers and staff; experience that has prepared him well for his new position at Campion Academy. Sager grew up in Illinois and Iowa and attended Sunnydale Academy as a boarding student. He later earned bachelor's degrees in Physical Education and Business Education from Union Adventist University and a master's degree in Educational Administration and Leadership from La Sierra University. His education and experience have earned him teaching certifications in Physical Education, Health, Business, Math, and Spanish, along with administrative endorsements as a Principal and Supervisor of Instruction. Throughout his career, he has served at several Seventh-day Adventist academies as a math and physical education teacher, as well as a vice principal and boys' dean. He is also a strong supporter of Pathfinders and Adventurers and serves on the leadership team for the North American Division Pathfinder Bible Experience. Although Sager has held many different roles throughout his career, recruiting has always been one of his favorite responsibilities. "One of the parts of my job as youth director that I really enjoyed was recruiting camp staff and campers," he said. "I enjoyed getting to meet lots of people and tell the stories of what happened at our camp. I'm looking forward to doing more of that here at Campion." Sager and his family are already familiar with Colorado. He previously taught at Mile High Academy, and his wife, Jennifer, is a Campion Academy alumna whose parents served for many years in the Rocky Mountain Conference. Their daughter, Denali, will be a senior at Campion this year, and their son, Kenai, will begin as a freshman. "We've heard good things about Campion, and I'm looking forward to seeing what God will do moving forward," Sager said. "We're also excited for our children to be attending Campion this fall." Having attended Adventist schools from first grade through his master's program, Sager credits Adventist education with shaping both his faith and his life. "I made important decisions in Adventist schools, like choosing to follow Jesus and finding an awesome Adventist wife," he said. "My teachers truly cared about me as a person. They took time to get to know me, encouraged me, and invested in my life. Many of them are still close friends today." As a former boarding academy student himself, Sager understands both the challenges and opportunities students experience when they leave home. "Moving into the dorm four hours from home was tough at first, but it turned out to be a really great experience," he said. "I hope to be an encourager for students here. There were people in my life who saw potential in me and helped me develop it, and I want to do the same for our students while sharing the unconditional love of Jesus." Outside of work, Sager enjoys traveling, spending time with friends, and serving in leadership with several North American Division ministries. His favorite sport is volleyball and he also enjoys basketball. He and his family are Advanced Open Water scuba certified, have traveled extensively, including visiting all 50 states, and are looking forward to exploring Colorado together once again. Jill Harlow, Communication Director  Campion Academy is excited to welcome Sarah Rogers as the new Agricultural Program Director. Thanks to a generous donor, this will be a full-time position, providing the time and resources needed to cultivate a flourishing garden that will serve both our students and the wider community through locally grown produce.
Sarah is the wife of our incoming Chaplain Walter Rogers, and along with their four children, they hope to move to Campion and begin work at the beginning of July. Sarah’s background is in elementary education, and she graduated from Andrews University. Recently, she has been homeschooling her children, serving as Prayer Ministry Coordinator for the British Columbia Conference, and working alongside her husband in their mobile apologetics ministry. She has also written a book recently published by AdventSource: “The 10-day Psalms 91 Challenge.” Sarah’s love for agriculture began as a teenager, when her family owned an orchard. She cared for the trees, and harvested and sold the fruit for her first work experience. Since then, she has continued to develop her green thumb with her large family garden plots. She shared that her garden always produced an abundance of food and not only was she able to fundraise by selling bumper crops with her family and friends, but also faithfully provide for their church’s community food bank. “I love growing and nurturing,” Sarah reflected. “I’m excited not only about the opportunity to grow food, but also to provide meaningful work experience and help feed students!” On a personal level, Sarah enjoys music, reading, crocheting, animals, and the outdoors. She also speaks Spanish and conversational Portuguese. Sarah will be teaching an Agriculture Science class and employing students in the work program throughout the year. They plan to begin immediately with growing microgreens indoors, and rebuilding the greenhouse to support hardy winter vegetables. Kaleb Leeper, Principal, elaborated on the goal of the reestablished program: “The goal of the agriculture program is to provide an educational experience for our students through an additional class, Agriculture Science, expanding our work program, allowing for students to work on the land and in the greenhouse, and to provide fresh produce for the cafeteria. Our students benefit when they can play an active role in the helping with operations of the school and providing food for the cafeteria, enjoying the "fruits" of their labor from the garden. Another major goal in the department is to collaborate more with our RMC schools and churches through educational experiences, produce giveaways, market garden and other service-related opportunities.” Leeper further explained the vital importance of agriculture in Adventist education: “Agriculture has long been a part of the DNA of Campion. Some of the first things planted on the Campion campus were berry bushes, and the academy benefited from the apples that were grown from Mr. Hankins' apple orchard across the street from campus. As an Advent movement, we have been given much counsel on the importance of having agriculture work at our schools, where students can work, interact, and learn from the principles of God's kingdom. These principles of cause and effect, patience, work ethic, etc., all contribute to the goal of right character formation in our students. “When a donor heard of the school's interest in starting an agriculture program, they came forward and offered to fund a full-time agriculture director, in perpetuity, and provide support for the program's needs in equipment and supplies. With such an offer like that, we felt that it was the Lord's leading and we could not pass it up! We give God all the glory for this opportunity for the school and for our students.” Jill Harlow, Communication Director The Campion campus came to life again, welcoming 108 students to start the academic year. After a busy Sunday completing registration and moving into the dormitories, the students and staff came together for the annual welcome back party, the Student Association (SA) Handshake on August 16.
The SA creatively introduced the school year’s theme, united, by walking in dressed as a flight crew and encouraging everyone to have a great flight (school year) before leading the student body in worship. “We introduced ourselves as a flight crew with the idea that we were the “Campion United” flight, flying through the school, united,” explained Natalie Bryant, SA Vice-President. “This theme is valuable because Campion is made up of many diverse cultures and ethnic backgrounds and we’ve also received a lot of new staff and students, so with that in mind, the idea of being united is so important.” Christopher Davis, SA Spiritual Vice-President, shared a message on what it means to be united in Christ, inspiring students to go outside their friend circles to make everyone feel welcome. SA Communication Director, Joshua Profir shared, “Our theme of unity is so important to me because when we as a school stand together united in Christ we can accomplish so much more for God than we could alone.” The students gathered in their class groups to play some Campion classic handshake games such as the hula hoop race and the human knot. “The icebreaker games were a unique blend of awkward and fun,” recalled Aome Angeles, senior. The event culminated with the classic handshake line, where every student and staff shook hands and introduced themselves. After a prayer of dedication, students had time to relax and catch up with old friends and meet new ones on Center Campus. Jayden Mambu, sophomore, shared, “My favorite part of handshake was meeting all the new people and getting to really know my class better. Talking to my classmates from last year and learning about their summer was fun too.” The event helped even brand new students feel part of the community to start the year. Annalise Gomez, new senior student, reflected, “I felt quite nervous and shy with not knowing really anyone. Everything felt so overwhelming at first, and it felt like everyone had their own friends and groups, but some girls opened their circle just to talk to me and got to know me a bit. They made me feel welcomed and more comfortable, even though I was still nervous. All the teachers were so kind and understanding. I really felt so welcomed and supported.” Campion Academy held their first full week of classes this week, with a special schedule that incorporated a daily assembly for student orientation. The student body is made up of 86 residence hall students and 22 community (aka village) students. 18 international students represent five different countries.
