Campion welcomes home past generations

This past weekend over 500 alumni reconnected at Campion Academy, sharing old memories here on campus. The homecoming event included a worship service, musical performances, time to catch up with classmates, and sports games.

Many alumni arrived on campus Friday afternoon to tour around the ad building and view their class photos. After sundown, vespers was held at the Campion Church and featured the International Student Program with Jill Harlow, where choir and Koinonia performed.

After vespers, alumni and students gathered at the firepit for an afterglow with s’mores and hot drinks.
On Sabbath, during the church service, the honor classes (ending in 5 or 0) stood for roll call. Alumni of the year Awards were presented to Reggie Leach and Joe and Eva Martin.

Reggie Leach received the award for his work in Adventist education and his support of Campion.
Joe and Eva Martin were honored for starting the Literature Evangelism program and leading it for many years.
After the church service, honor classes visited with each other across campus. Teddy Manase, class of 2015, reflected on his weekend. “Alumni weekend was awesome. It was great catching up with my fellow classmates and seeing how far everyone has come in life (career wise, having families, etc..) and reminiscing about the good old times that we had. I also missed some of the people that weren't able to make it.”

The events ended with friendly competitions between the alumni and current students in volleyball and soccer. The alumni dominated both the volleyball and the soccer games again this year.

Blet Htoo, class of 2023, stated, “I didn’t plan on going up to alumni but I'm happy I did. I enjoyed getting to see staff and friends. It hasn't been long since I've graduated but I miss everyone so much. Getting to talk and hear about how everyone’s doing is great, especially since it's hard to stay in contact when we are all busy. Campion will always be special and important to me.”

Students dive into learning at RMNP

Campion took class to Rocky Mountain National Park (RMNP) last Wednesday, dividing into six different groups to hike and learn about various topics related to the park.
Taking a break from the regular busy schedule, students commented on how they enjoyed the  opportunity of being at RMNP and seeing God’s nature in person. Taylin Weber, a junior, shared, “After a busy week full of tests I really enjoyed this day out and the time I spent with my friends. Hiking to the waterfall and having lunch there with my group was really fun.”
Despite the fickle weather affecting many groups, the students on the 10-mile hike conquered the trail with bravery and endurance. Theo Wolf, a senior, commented, “In the beginning of the hike, hail started falling on us, but as soon as we got on the mountain top, the sun came out. The view from there was so beautiful.”
The groups each learned about different topics including; elk ecology, geology, and other less academic topics such as music and serenity. Daphene Farner, a sophomore, said, “I learned about elk and how the females and males look and act differently. We got to see a large male elk with a lot of females at a lake.”
After spending the day outside of the classroom, the students came back having learned a lot from the staff members about nature.

Students step up to serve

9/18/2025

This past Friday students at Campion Academy took a day from school to serve the community around Loveland.

Students split into different job groups, picking up trash at parks and highways as well as sorting donations at Habitat for Humanity and Serve 6.8.

Finn Stenbakken, junior, sorted clothes at Habitat for Humanity. “It really felt good to help them and really to help out servicing the community,” he shared.

Another group went to Highway 60 to pick up trash as part of the Adopt-a-Highway program. Edward dos Santos, sophomore, said, “It was my first time doing community service at Campion and I had a very nice experience. We moved around a lot cleaning the highways, and I had a good group of friends which made it even more enjoyable.”

After serving in the community, the students continued working on campus: pulling weeds, making dorm improvements, and completing other outdoor projects.

Chris Davis, sophomore, helped with sidewalk repair in front of the Ad Building. “I was one of the bigger guys in my group and worked with a 600-pound slab of concrete for the sidewalk, and it made me want to work for maintenance because it was super fun,” Davis recalled.

As part of Campion’s commitment to teaching the value of service, the campus holds service days several times each year. Students earn additional service credit hours volunteering on the weekends at churches and other organizations.

Campion students uplifted from week of worship

Speaker Andrew Barrett brought spiritual renewal to Campion Academy students during the first Week of Worship of the year.

This Week of Worship was different because the meetings took place during the morning before any of the classes had started.

Luca Lu, a senior, shared his opinion on the adjustment, “For me, I usually do my devotions in the morning, so it was really great to receive the word when we had worship in the morning. Not only because I have a clearer mind in the morning, but also because it helped me to set a good vibe for the rest of the day.”

This week's speaker, Andrew Barrett, had a passion for nursing and preaching. He spoke about the weight of God’s love and God’s yearning for man. He often referred to the Bible and the writings of Ellen G. White, and he also shared his own personal experiences.

Charlie Reeves, a senior, shares his takeaway from the message, “He wasn’t telling us about all the things we’re doing wrong as teenagers, but he was talking about how strong the love of Jesus is. And if you truly realize how much He loves you then it’d be hard not to love Him back.”

Andrew Barrett concluded the Week of Worship at vespers. Towards the end of the meeting all the students gathered on the stage, put their arms over each other's shoulders, and sang “I Surrender All.”

Remembering the week, Andrew Barrett said, “There was never a moment where I wasn’t connected with the students.”

Leaders gain knowledge at Union conference

9/11/2025

A selected group of nine student leaders went to Union Adventist University to strengthen their leadership skills at a three-day conference along with student officers from different schools this past week.

Over the three-days, the student leaders worked with other students in groups, and had conferences with Union Leaders, getting to hear about emotional intelligence, leading like Moses, and more.

“This was my first time sponsoring this trip and I was impressed by the practical and valuable lessons that the students learned about leadership. I’m excited to see how the Campion student leaders use what they experienced to better lead our community,” expressed Erin Johnson, a teacher and sponsor.

During their free time, they got to intermingle with alumni and other schools, socializing together and enjoying each other's company.

Marc Winokan, a senior RA, shares, “Not only did we learn how to be better Christ-like leaders, but we also had lots of fun hanging out with the other academies and alumni. It was so fun, it felt like I was on a mission trip.”

Through Hail and Hardship: Class of 2026 Bonds at Senior Survival

9/4/2025

Navigating rain, cold temps, and even hail, the 37 seniors in the class of 2026 spent four days learning survival skills and bonding as a class in the forest at Glacier View Ranch.

While the weather was tolerable for the first three days, a hail storm on Sabbath afternoon made this year’s Senior Survival one of the most challenging to ever happen at Campion Academy.

Following tradition, students brought sleeping bags and hammocks, but they had to build their own shelter with a single tarp as an experience of survival.
“We found a nice foundation for our shelter and laid out our tarp. The process was cool as we saw our shelter come together,” said Justin Ticonuwu. “Unfortunately when the hail came, it was uninhabitable and our stuff got wet. Overall, it was pretty cool, but I was sad to see it come down.”
For meals, students were given some basic ingredients and had to start a fire and cook for themselves. Theo Poleza reflected, “The food was really good. Our group had really good ideas of what to cook and we would always help each other out.”
Beside all the survival experiences, the seniors bonded together as class through different group activities.
Charlie Reeves commented, “The activities taught us to not only communicate, but listen to each other. The trust fall was my favorite because it was the most memorable, and it taught us to trust each other.”

The hike on the last day came with an unforgettable challenge. “It started very calm and it was sunny, so l left my rain jacket in the camp,” Marc Winokan remembered; “and then when we all got to the top, it started raining and then hailing very badly, for a solid 10 minutes. Everyone was scared and hiding under something. But praise God, we got back safe.”

During the hail storm, even though everyone was scared, the seniors encouraged each other. Some huddled in circles to face the challenge together, while others lifted up their rain jackets to make a shelter over their friends.

Due to the severity of the hail storm and the damage it did to the shelters, the seniors came home on Saturday evening after their final campfire.

However, through the challenges, the seniors mentioned how they grew stronger and closer as a class. Peter Hutauruk, senior class sponsor, commented, “Our class survived the hail together; nothing else can stop us anymore.”

Games and food connect classmates at parties

9/4/2025

While the seniors were out surviving the wilderness and cold during Senior Survival, the rest of the classes partied it up. The freshmen, sophomores, and juniors played games and ate food in their respective class parties on Saturday night.

The freshmen had their first class party in the Jahn’s house on campus. They played volleyball and Gaga ball or just lounged around.

They had a variety of food. Guilherme Hacker said, “The snacks and the chips were my favorite.”

The sophomores had the whole Campion gym to themselves for their class party. They played games such as mafia, freeze tag, basketball, and volleyball.

For food the sophomores had watermelon, chips, drinks, and a birthday cake to celebrate two of the students’ birthdays.

When asked what Gerrad Vat’s, a sophomore, most memorable moment was at the party, he said: “I would say the cake because it was my birthday and people sang happy birthday to Grace and I.” Sometimes, it isn’t the taste of the food we remember, but the atmosphere.

Meanwhile the juniors, 45 minutes away from campus, had their class party in a fellow classmate’s place, the Sorensen’s residence. The Sorensen’s home had a lot to offer for the students’ entertainment.

The hot spots of the junior party were the outdoor basketball hoop, the trampoline, the game room, and of course the kitchen. The juniors had an assortment of veggies and chips, as well as pizza and mango smoothies.

Josh Fresse, a junior, shared that his most memorable moment was “when Israel asked Mr. Sorensen for a family photo.” Although Israel's request may seem a little unexpected, everyone in the junior class is family, and that applies to all the classes.

Overall, these class parties gave students an opportunity to connect and create memories with each other.
