This weekend, the Girls’ and Boys’ Dorm went on a little getaway (from schoolwork) to learn more about each other and learn more about God. Dorm retreat occurs in the beginning of the school year and serves as a good way for dorm students to get to know each other and take some time off from school work. This year, dorm retreat began on Friday, September 15, and went until Sunday, September 17. All village students were invited and encouraged to participate. This event brought many students together to hang out, take a break from school, and have a fun, relaxing weekend.
The theme for the Girls’ Dorm this school year is “Surrender”. A guest speaker named, Jenni shared her testimony to the girls and bonded with them as well. Friday night, the girls went outside for worship where lanterns and lights were set up. It was a very windy night but it didn’t stop the girls from worshipping. Saturday, there were breakout sessions like crafts, games, and discussion. That afternoon, the girls went to the Greeley Church for a special concert that was given by a guest speaker for a women’s retreat. Saturday night, the girls got to hang out and watch a movie. On Sunday, the girls went on a mall trip to The Orchard to walk, shop, and hang out. "I loved it! I loved how everyone got together and there wasn’t anything against anyone. What I got, is that no matter where you are on your Christian walk with Jesus, you can always surrender to him and not feel judged for anything you’ve done.” (Lauren Bravatti, Senior Village) “I learned that you really have to pay attention to God and give time to him. My favorite part was Sabbath morning where we talked and ate together.” (Sorcha Knoetgen, Freshmen Dorm) Mantown (the Men's dorm) had fun bonding this past weekend as well. On Friday, Pastor Daniel gave an amazing message to the boys. The next day, they traveled to GVR to relax and enjoy nature. It had a calm and relaxing atmosphere. Saturday night, they came back down and played capture the flag, campus wide! On Sunday, they played kiddie-pool kickball. “My favorite thing during dorm retreat was jamming with my brothers up in the men’s chapel. It was cool that we were praising God as lightning was flashing outside. It was like peace in the storm.” (Austin Rotinsulu, Junior Dorm) “My favorite part was capture the flag at night. It was fun to get everyone involved and have to work together to win. I learned that we’re all brothers!” (Erick Maldonado, Sophmore Dorm) Dorm retreat was a success. Many students enjoyed the fun activities that were involved. They learned many valuable things with valuable people. [article by Rachel Marpaung]
