Campion Academy

It Happened at Class Scramble

9/6/2017

Just this last Saturday, Campion Academy had its annual Class Scramble event where the whole school comes together to participate in a little friendly competition. Class Scramble is a time where every student can come dressed up in their class color and participate in a scramble to get random items that Principle Don Reeder calls, to the middle of the gym. Every year students look forward to this event!

In preparation for Class Scramble, students look for anything they can find laying around their rooms or houses.  Any item is helpful to their class, as Principal Reeder can call just about anything, such as zucchinis, a dog tag, a picture of the President, and just about anything you can possibly think of. As Principle Reeder calls an item, each class has a set of runners. The runner’s job is to get the item from their class’s corner to the middle of the gym as quickly as possible. Whichever runner makes it the middle of the gym with the item first, earns a point for their class.

“It was so much fun! We really bonded as a class and it was a lot of fun getting hyped with everyone!” – Ireland Anthony (Freshmen runner)

“I was honestly a little confused with the whole thing at the beginning. All l knew is that I had to dress up in blue and be there ready to run. But I thought it was really cool how they have this kind of event with friendly competition so students can participate in something fun.” –Erick Maldonado (Sophomore runner)
In between each quarter of the competition, SA prepared some fun games that students were able to participate in as well, such as shucking corn and balancing plates and bowls.

To begin with, the score was pretty balanced between the classes, but as the night went on and the time was ticking away the juniors started to pull ahead!

“I look forward to this event every year. As a scorekeeper it seems like a very simple task, but it is actually a lot of pressure. I have to be on the ball at all times, and get in the score quickly and correctly. I believe Class Scramble is the epitome of class bonding, and I know the students always enjoy it. It’s a lot of fun to see how each grade progresses throughout the years.” –Dean Johnson

In the third quarter the juniors were racking up points one after the other with their score getting up in the 200’s!  But in the fourth quarter, the Seniors began coming in close behind the Juniors. With just a few minutes left in the last quarter, the Juniors and Seniors were neck in neck and as Principal Reeder called the last item…. the Seniors won!! By just five points, the Seniors were able to pull ahead and win Campion Academy’s Class Scramble of 2017.

“I was super nervous and felt pressured that the Seniors had to win, but I was super proud of our class when we had a comeback in the last quarter and won by five points! I knew we could do it, but it was just a matter of whether we would do it or not.” –Jordyn Hammond (Senior runner)

“It was so lit! Just the energy of running and getting to the cone, it’s just so exhilarating!” –Jordi Morales (Junior runner)
