Seniors Damian Johansen and Brian Nelson were acknowledged on National Day of Prayer, May 5, for their choice to join the Marine Corps. Retired Army Chaplain (Colonel) Dick Stenbakken interviewed the young men during services held at Mountain View High School in Loveland. Prayers were offered for all those in the military, as well as other groups represented at the gathering.
"I just want to serve my country. That's what I've always wanted to do," said Damian. Brian explained, "My grandfather told me stories of his fun travels and memories, and he talked about how the Marine Corps was the best. So, I wanted to join the Marine Corps because they're the best. And, when I get older, I want to tell my grandkids the stories of my travels."
Both are beginning basic training at Camp Pendleton in San Diego on August 1.
